Golf is a game in which players whack a small white ball towards a hole, before walking leisurely to where it lands in order to whack it again.
Golf is immensely popular. It's low impact - most of the time is spent walking or looking for your ball - and can be intensely frustrating and addictive. Hitting just one good shot in an entire round can easily make your day and bring you back for weeks on end in the hope of hitting that perfect shot once again.
It's easy to get into the game. Buy your own clubs, borrow a few from friends or hire them at the course. Get yourself some golf balls, a few tees and be sure to wear a hat or suncream.
Golf gear needn't cost a fortune...be sure to get advice from friends and the Internet.
Check that there are no competitions on at the course before you leave, pay your greenkeeping fees at the clubhouse and away you go. Grab your golf buggy and hit the course. Invite a few friends and spend a pleasant afternoon strolling over those well-prepared lawns. Of course, don't forget to whack that white ball occasionally, preferably towards the green.
